Bio

Katy Nichols Cairns, a retired nursing professor, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, during her 82nd year, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Service: Noon Saturday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Charlie in Greenwood Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home to share laughter and tears from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Born in Baldwin, Fla., on Dec. 11, 1927, and growing up in Weatherford, Katy was the daughter of Grady and Alma Taylor. She and Charlie Nichols Jr. wed in 1948, and were married for almost 50 years. While raising their three children in Fort Worth, Katy finished her bachelor's degree in nursing from TCU. She went on to teach at TCU's Harris College of Nursing for nearly 30 years. Katy and Charlie were active members of West Berry Church of Christ, Rotary and were avid Horned Frog fans. Two years after Charlie's death in 1997, Katy married longtime family friend, Bob Cairns of Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie and Bob, and daughter, Linda Nichols Zakaryan. Survivors: In addition to her sons, Mike Nichols of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Danny Nichols and wife, Katie, of Fort Worth, Katy is survived by her son-in-law, Ted Zakaryan; grandchildren, Brent Zakaryan and wife, Kim, and their son, Asher, Dimitri Nichols and wife, Min, Jill Zakaryan and Adam Nichols and wife, Dani, all of California; granddaughter, Ashley Nichols; stepgrandchildren, Diana Bloxom and Harrison Bloxom, all of Fort Worth; and beloved canine friend, Freckles.
