J. E. Shipman, 84, of Dayton, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his residence. " Pa Pa's gone fishin' " Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am, Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with burial following at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. J.E. was born April 11, 1919 in Tarkington Prairie to parents; John E. and Ethel Copeland Shipman, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1939, a retired operator and sales representative for Dailey Oil and Tool in Houston after 30 years of service, member of the Trinity Baptist Church, and the Dayton Masonic Lodge #825 AF & AM. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing computer games, working crossword puzzles, Wednesday night meetings, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Shipman was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Jimmy and Larry Shipman, granddaughters: Tanya Lynn and Brenda Carol Croft, sisters: Jewel Barton and Georgia Sprayberry, and brothers: Frank and Commodore Shipman. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Ruby Yarbrough Shipman of Dayton, sons: Johnny Shipman, Sr. of Dayton, daughters: Patricia Lynn Totzer and husband Karl of Anahuac, Sandra Lee Banning of Dayton, and Bobbie Sue Banik and husband Melvin, Sr. of Flynn, sister: Rosa Lee Falk of Dayton, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and two on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
