Alvie was born in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. He was the son of Henry Clinton Autry and Ida E. Wilsie. The Tulia Herald, Thursday, August 9, 1979 Services for Alvie L. Autry, 81, of Tulia were at 2 pm Friday in the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Murray Travis, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace Funeral Home. Autry died Wednesday in the Methodist Hospital in Dallas following a brief illness. A native of Roff, Okla., he married Eva Mae Carter Nov. 6, 1921, in Marlow, Okla. After her death, he married Verna Holcomb June 24, 1962 in Tulia. He came to Tulia from Phoenix, Ariz., and was a retired groceryman and farmer. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glendene Abernathy of Tulia; a son, Harold of Amarillo; two stepdaugthers, Wilma Brown of Lockney and Sally Smoot of Amarillo; two stepsons, Norman Holcomb of Durango, Colo. And Eddie Holcomb of Canyon; a sister, Mrs. Virgil Richardson of Arlo, Okla.; a brother, Roy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
