Daughter of Fred Everett Price and Ethel Muriel Ewald OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, December 11, 1984 WITMAN Muriel May Price Witman, daughter of Fred E. and Ethel M. Ewald Price, was born in Lucas County, Iowa on Jan. 20, 1919 and departed from this life Dec. 1, 1984 at Des Moines General Hospital at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 11 days. Muriel was baptized in the Russell Methodist Church and later in her early childhood joined this church. Her earliest childhood was spent in Russell, until 1929, at which time she moved with her family to Hemingford, Neb., where they resided until 1932, when she moved back to Russell and attended the Russell schools until her junior year, when she moved to Hemingford to stay with her father. She graduated from Hemingford High School on May 21, 1936. Nov 26, 1936 she was united in marriage to Oscar Plamansky in Hemingford, Neb. He was taken prisoner of war on Wake Island during World War II. Muriel married Dickson VanDyke Witman in 1942 at Sidney, Neb., who was in the Air Force. To this union two children were born: Joan Marie and David Price Witman. While Dick was in the service, the family resided in Colorado, Georgia, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Omaha, Neb. Upon completion of service life, the family moved to Hemingford, Neb. until 1955, when they moved to Chariton. Muriel was divorced in 1962 and continued to live here in Chariton with her children. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. For a good many years, when her health permitted, her hobby was bowling. She had employment at Engebretsen Restaurant, Charitone Hotel, Quality Bakery, Gross Galesburg Factory and at the Army Recruiting Office. In 1979, ill health forced her into retirement and she moved to Southgate Apartments, where she resided until her passing. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Price Kinkead and Fred Price. Muriel leaves to mourn her passing her children, Joan Marie Kinney of Chariton and David Price Witman of Huxley; one son-in-law, James Kinney; one daughter-in-law, Rosella Witman; three grandchildren, Scott Kinney of Chariton, Kimberly Kinney Howie of Des Moines and Rebecca Witman of Huxley; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Lou Stone of Chariton; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1984 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Wauneita McConnell conducting. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery Bearers were Karl Stone, Dan Jones, Keith Perrin and Randy Hickman.
