Mary Wood, 74, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2010. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Birdville Church of Christ, 3208 Carson St., Haltom City, with Aren Haggard officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel, 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Fort Worth. Mary was born to Sarah and Herbert Hull on May 11, 1936, in Longview. Except for about five years on the family farm in Wise County, she was reared in Tyler. She graduated from Tyler High School in 1953. On Feb. 24, 1955, Mary married James Pless of Arp. They made their home in the Fort Worth area. Their family was completed when they adopted two toddlers, James and Amanda, from an orphanage in Bogota, Colombia. Career changes resulted in a transfer to Palestine in 1971. In 2000, they returned to the Fort Worth area. For a number of years, Mary worked either as a private secretary or as an accounting clerk. At age 40, she returned to school and became a nurse, a field she loved. In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling, and she and James travelled extensively in the contiguous United States. James predeceased her in 2003. Mary loved animals, and her hobbies included crochet and other handcrafts, crossword puzzles and card games. She loved her church and the friends she made there. Mary was a disciplined person, and she took pride in being a "straight shooter." One did not have to wonder what she was thinking. On Aug. 12, 2010, after a more than six-year courtship, Mary and Ben D. Wood were wed, and Mary was welcomed into his family, son, Ben Wood and wife, Mary Jo, of Southlake; daughter, Karen McIntire and husband, Bill, of Corpus Christi; and daughter, Ann Klinger and her husband, Barry, of Southlake. Mary enjoyed meeting the new grandchildren and great-grandchildren in this extended family. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation and thanks for the skills, compassion, and care provided by her physicians, Doctors Thu Thuy Nguyen, David Martin, Gary Jones, H. M. Prost, and others. A special thanks is extended to the skilled nurses, aides and other hospital staff members who worked with her diligently and comforted her during her most recent medical crisis. Survivors: Husband, Ben Wood and his family (as detailed above); Mary's son, James and wife, Micheale, of Keller; her daughter, Amanda Romero and husband, Joe, of Danbury; her grandchildren, Clay, Jo Jo, Victor and one due in March 2011; former daughter-in-law, Connie Pless of Watauga and her son, John David, and his family of Fort Worth; and Mary's brother, Bill Hull of Watauga.
