January 8,1837/joined the Army of the Republic of Texas Served until April 10, 1838. For his services to the Republic of Texas, George received 1,280 acres of land in Walker County, Texas. George sold the land in 1839. On September 8,1839 he joined the TEXAS RANGERS. He served under Capt. William F. Wilson May 14,1842, married Mary Copeland in Robertson County, Texas. Mary and George Toby were the parents of 4 children. George Toby died at his home of pneumonia, February 1850. George died in Feb 1850 of pneumonia (Leon Co Mortality table). His will, written 19 Feb 1850, is recorded in Grimes Co, TX (Probate Book 1, pp 133-135). A notice of his death was reported in the Chittenango Phenix newspaper, Madison Co, NY on Wed, 27 Mar 1850 describing him as "formerly of this village".
