Nancy S. Mathews married Garrett A. Fitzgerald, 1827 Marion County, Alabama. Son of John Thomas Mathews and Rebecca Jane McDavid. Nancy S. Mathews is my 3rd great grandmother. Nancy S. (Mathews) Fitzgerald was an early settler in Fannin County, Texas, who is associated with a land grant that formed part of the town of Windom. While she is remembered as an early settler and manager of her family's land, records indicate that the initial land claim for 640 acres was filed in Fannin County by her husband, Garrett Fitzgerald , on November 3, 1839. Land Grant Details: The Fitzgerald land grant was located near Honey Grove in Fannin County, Texas, and the southern portion of the present-day town of Windom was built upon this property. 1840 Context: While the file date was late 1839, the grant is often associated with early 1840s settlement patterns (Third Class Headrights).
