HERO OF CIVIL WAR DIES C. M. Pulver Got Congressional Medal for Rescue of Captain. C. M. Pulver, 87, civil war veteram and Nebraska pioneer, died Thursday night at his home, 2702 North Forty-fifth avenue. A native of New York, Mr. Pulver crossed the plains with ox cart and covered wagon, by way of Omaha, while in his teens, and went to California. In 1863 he joined the Eighth California regiment. For the rescue of his captain when the officer fell off a ship into the Bay of San Francisco, he was awarded the congressional medal for bravery. Mr. Pulver was married in 1869, and settled in Osceola, Neb. After the death of his wife in 1877 he went to Wisconsin. He was married again and returned to Osceola, where he lived for the next 35 years, until moving to Omaha in 1913. He was a life member of the Old Guard Post No. 7, Grand Army of the Republic, of Omaha. He belonged also to the Kountze Memorial church and to the Masonic fraternity. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. H. W. Wendland of Omaha and Mrs. Howard Allison, Minneapolis, Minn., and a son, Dr. J. E. Pulver, Omaha; two brothers, Oliver Pulver of Wakeeny, Kans., and David of Jennings, La., and six grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Dr. O. D. Baltzly officiating. Pallbearers will be L. B. Pixley, J. N. DeFrance, A. F. Wendland, D. E. Porter, W. R. King and Richard Kitchen. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. A. D. Dunn, Dr. W. P. Wherry, Dr. W. R. Fouts, Dr. Adolph Sachs, Dr. E. C. Henry, Dr. W. P. Haney, Dr. J. A. Henske, Arthur Dunbar, Wymen Dressler, Charles Barothy, W. R. Burrell, H. E. Dickinson, J. S. Davidson, J. H. Berger, J. C. NOTE: The mother of Cassius Marcus Pulver was Margaret Arine Warfield. According to some researchers, she is buried on a farm in Osceola, Polk Co., Nebraska.
