St. Paul Phonograph, December 3, 1969, transcribed by Linda Berney Joseph Frank Klanecky was born on a farm north of Farwell on June 2, 1894 to Joseph and Kristina (Machacek) Klanecky. He attended the nearby rural school and became a farmer. He served in the United States Army from September 6, 1918 to March 15, 1919 and received his honorable discharge at Camp Hansock, Georgia. Upon his return home, he resumed farming. He married Miss Helen Horky at her home near Farwell on April 14, 1920. Three sons, Dale, Donald and Dennis and a daughter Darlene were born to this union. The family farmed near Farwell until 1964, when they retired and moved into town. Mr. Klanecky has been in failing health the past two years, and had just returned home from a five week stay at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island. He had spent a joyful and happy Thanksgiving at his home. Late Thursday he suffered a heart attack which claimed his life. He was 75 years of age. He was a member of the American Legion, Carl Mogensen Post 119 at St. Paul; St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Carpentry was his hobby and he built all the buildings on his farm as well as flat beds, trailers, wagons and many other items. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dale; a brother Frank and a grandson. Surviving him are his wife, Helen of Farwell two sons, Donald and Dennis, both of Farwell; a daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Darlene) Trubl of Williams, Arizona, six grandchildren; a brother Louis Klanecky from Grand Island; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Francil of St. Paul and Mrs. Emil Novak of Omaha.
