Kouba was born on Aug. 5, 1937, to Emil J. and Rose (Matulka) Kouba, on the farm southwest of David City. He attended David City Public Schools graduating from David City High School in 1956. Emil enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957, and spent much of his military time in Korea. While stationed in Texas he met his future wife, Patricia Cavett, and they married on Jan. 3, 1961, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gladewater, Texas. Four children were born to this union. After Emil was discharged from the Army, he went to work for Behlen Mfg. Co. in Columbus as a machinist and was also a member of the Behlen First Aid and fire brigade. He retired from Behlen after 39 years of service. He also farmed and was a mechanic, being able to fix and build machinery as needed for his farm operations. He donated blood on a regular basis over many years. He also belonged to the Eagles Club, Kregger Legion Post 125 of David City and was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Tihen Council 1717 of David City. Emil always made sure that he spent time with his children. He took them hunting and fishing and taught them how to handle guns, remove a fish from a hook and clean wild game. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Emil D. Kouba, of David City, Teresa Rountree, of David City, James Kouba and special friend, Rita Booze, of Bruno, and Daniel Kouba, of David City; two sisters, Delores (Tom) Medinger, of David City and Irene (Steve) Blankenbaker, of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
