Obituary from the Chico Enterprise Record, June 20, 1996. Red Peterson was raised in Walsh Co., ND and began "traveling" in 1932 at age 21, looking for work and gradually moving west. He eventually settled in Redding, CA and worked on the construction of Shasta Dam. He met and married Joy in 1939, and they moved to Chico in 1943, where he continued in union carpentry work for another 32 years, working on many large construction projects often as a supervisor or foreman, including buildings at Chico State and the Oroville Dam. Among his carpentry endeavors over the years, he built his own house and that of many friends and relatives too, was the construction of The First Christian Church were he and Joy were members. They moved to Pismo Beach in 1971, where he worked for a time on Vandenburg Air Force Base, then returned to Chico to retire in 1975. He was a life member of the Carpenter's Union.
