Isaiah is also known by the spelling of his first name as 'Isiah'. He is named after his maternal Grandfather Isaiah H. Coleman and his maternal uncle Trueman Lorenzo Coleman . His maternal Grandmother is Mary Adeline Coleman (nee' Green) . Some records show him take his step-father's name 'Simmons'. Father: ? Graham Mother: Carrie Coleman Graham Simmons Pledger Step-Father: David Washington Simmons Obituary - The Liberty Vindicator - Friday, 11 January 1901 Nelan Val Cole was born on the 9th day of May 1887 and passed quietly and peacefully away on Thursday morning, Jan. 3d, at the home Mr. I. H. Coleman, on Tarkington's Prairie, Texas. Bro. Cole was a member of a Baptist church in Louisiana, his former home, from which state he moved to Texas at the age of twenty and located on Tarkington Prairie. He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Coleman, of Tarkington, on June 28, 1900. Bro. Cole was a conscientious christian to the day of his death and was fully conscious of the approaching end. He was a man of great ambition and would have been a great blessing to his church and county had he been spared, but an All wise eye guided an infinite hand which took him from the disappointments of earth to the bliss of glory. Carrie married Nelan Val Cole on 28 June 1900. Isaiah's father in between here. Carrie married D. W. Simmons in 1907. Of his 4 other siblings (3 brothers & 1 sister), he is the only one to take the last name Graham. His siblings are: Roy Washington Simmons (1909 - 2004) Vina M.
