Former Superior resident Ronald A. McNichols, 56, of LaJunta, Colo., died Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Rochester, Minn. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock with the Rev. Leland Smith officiating. Peacock-Larson Funeral Home of LaJunta is in charge of arrangements. Mr. McNichols was born Aug. 11, 1940, to Glenn and Hazel (Howe) McNichols in Superior. In 1965 he began working as a clerk in the post office in Golden, Colo. In 1972 he was promoted to postmaster in Black Hawk, Colo. He also was postmaster in Nederland, Colo., and Las Animas, Colo., before becoming postmaster in LaJunta in 1987. On June 18, 1985, he married Barbara Carter in Aspen, Colo. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Masonic Lodge and was past president of the LaJunta Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Bent's Fort Historical Association Board and was treasurer for the Colorado League of Postmaster Retirees. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Mark of Arvada, Colo., and Bret of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Dianna Hansen of Westminster, Colo., and Brenda Jorgensen Branson of Seattle, Wash.; one stepson, Don Aron Hansen of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Stephen of Golden; five sisters, Betty Fenimore and Darlene Oglevie, both of Superior, JoAnn Brehm and Doris Ross, both of Golden, and Glenna Kitten of Grand Island; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Rhonda Rae.
