Bio

Melissa was the daughter of Woodson Lewallen and Nancy Pruitt. She was raised on her parents farm in Monroe Township of Morgan County, Indiana, along with her five siblings. She married Levi W. Frederick on July 14, 1864, in Morgan Co., Indiana. Melissa and Levi were living in Indianapolis when Levi died in 1879. Melissa and the children moved back to Morgan Co., and lived with her parents for a time. By 1885, Melissa and the children had moved to Buffalo County, Nebraska, where they worked a farm. Melissa was mother to seven children: Sarah Margaret, Richard S., Malinda, Emma Etta, John William, Alonzo Charles, and Eather Lee.
