husband of S A Hart James S. Hart was born to William Hart and Catherine Elizabeth Chappell Jones on Sept.11, 1817 in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee. He came to Texas in 1871 with his wife Sarah Ann Bailey. They settled in Johnson County. According to the Hart Family Bible, James Smith Hart was born in 1825. This date would correspond with census records. Not sure why 1817 was put on his gravestone.
