Bio

James Allen Moreland, born about 1845, Bradley County, Tennessee was the son of John K. Morland and Elizabeth Lacy Moreland. He died July 4, 1912 in Altoga, Texas. He married Julia Mantooth Sept. 13, 1868 in Bradley County, Tennessee in 1872. They lived in Bradley County, Tennessee, until moving to Texas in 1872. They stayed one year, then returned to Tennessee for about a year and then returned to Texas. They settled at Valdasta for two years and then moved to Altoga (their house faced North at the main intersection of town.) He was a member of the IOOF Lodge. He gave each of his children a farm. At the time of his death he was described as a "prominent merchant" and a man of "strict integrity and highest honor".
