Evelyn "Bess" Mimick, 87, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, 3921 20th St. Rev. Joseph A. Miksch will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, continuing 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday, all at McKown Funeral Home. Memorials suggested to Columbus Community Hospital Hospice Program, St. Isidore Stained Glass Fund, Scotus Endownment Fund, or to the Platte Valley Humane Society (Paws and Claws) in Memory of Buddy. Evelyn Mimick was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Columbus, to John and Anna (Sutko) Niedzwiecki. She was a graduate of Clarks High School. Evelyn married Clarence Mimick on March 18, 1944, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa. She was employed at JCPenny's for 19 years where she managed the baby department. She retired in 1986. Evelyn was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She loved listening and dancing to Polka music, playing cards, gardening and traveling. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Ken) Gehlbach, of Montgomery, Texas; son, Jerry (Donna) Mimick, of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter, Kathi (Rick) Hurner, of Columbus; daughter, Cindy Schuster, of Omaha; son, Chuck Mimick, of Columbus; special friend, Sister Dorothy Rolf, of Omaha; six grandchildren, Brian Gehlbach, Mandy Craig, TJ Mimick, Jessica Mimick, Austin Schuster and Andrew Schuster; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Gehlbach, Blake Gehlbach and Will Craig; brother-in-law, Pete (Charlotte) Mimick, of Norfolk; sisters-in-law, Eola Mimick, of Fremont, Lorraine (Carroll) Henke, of Columbus and Joan Mimick, of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mimick; parents, John and Anna Niedzwiecki; son, Jim Mimick; and sister, Laurine Zelazny.
