Bio

Margaret McEwen Buchanan, 84, of Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at the Givens Estate Health Care Center following a period of declining health. She was born Sept. 12, 1920 in Maury County, Tenn. and was a daughter of the late William T. McEwen and Alice Fleming McEwen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Buchanan and a grandson, Matt Morrow. Margaret was a Grace Hospital Guild volunteer, a member of the D.A.V., and a former employee of the Burke County Red Cross. She was a very active member of Salem United Methodist Church. Margaret is survived by a daughter and her husband, Jane and Leon Morrow of Rutherfordton; her twin sister, Marian Alexander of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.; grandsons, Jake Morrow and wife, Melinda of Mars Hill, and Will Morrow of Rutherfordton; and a great-grandchild, Rachel Morrow. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with the memorial service following at 11:30 a.m. in the church. The Rev. Don Freshour will officiate at the services. The family will receive friends Thursday immediately following the memorial service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Givens Estate United Methodist Retirement Community Supplemental Assistance Fund or the Memory Assessment Clinic, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
