Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie C. Powers, a resident of Oak Cliff for fifty-three years, will be held at 4 p. m. Monday at Lamar and Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 West Jefferson. The Rev. Jasper Manton will officiate. Burial will be in old Oak Cliff Cemetery. Mrs. Powers died Saturday at her home, 722 1/12 Zang Blvd. She was born in Orvilla, Ellis County. Her father, the late Paxton Gillespie, was a teacher of Latin and Greek who moved from Lebanon, Tenn. during the War Between the States. The family first settled in Tehuacana, Limestone County, where he taught at Trinity University. Mrs. Powers was graduated from the school, which has since been moved to San Antonio. Mrs. Powers' husband, the late Norman Powers, operated a horse-drawn express in Oak Cliff many years. Mrs. Powers is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Powers Hanger; two sons, Lester Powers and Ralph Powers, and a brother, J. H. Gillespie, all of Dallas.
