Bio

Anthony J. "Tony" Czapla, 91, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at the Golden LivingCenter in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, at at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation continues from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, also at the funeral home. Anthony J. "Tony" Czapla was born May 13, 1919, in Columbus, to Joseph B. and Agnes (Kush) Czapla. He attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School and graduated from Duncan High School in 1938. Following his schooling, he worked in Omaha at the Wilson and Cadahy packing houses. In 1943, he returned to the family where he farmed until 1946. He started working for Duncan Irrigation. He then worked construction with Czapla Brothers and Moschenross. In 1960, he went to work for Clarence Mimick. He worked as a supervisor for D & L until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 938. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golfing. He is survived by his brother, Ray L. Czapla, of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph B. Czapla; mother, Agnes Czapla; five sisters; and six brothers.
