Obituary of Bill Vanek Funeral services were held at 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 1979 at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. Nebraska for William Vanek, 70 of Sargent, who died Saturday. February 17, 1979 at the Sargent Hospital. The Rev. Karnish officiated at Mass. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. Pallbearers were Bob Sutton, John Gill. Tom Mcintosh, Roger Fleming, Leroy Matousek, and Wayne Penny. Organist was Nancy Barnhart. singer was Ramona Hilligas. William (Bill) was born April 27, 1908 at Comstock, Nebr. the second son of Frank and Mary Vanek. As a child the family moved to the West Union area in April of 1920 where he attended school and grew to manhood. On October 12, 1932 he married Frances M . Gruber at Ord, Nebr. To this union was born one daughter, Evelyn. They farmed in the West Union area until 1961, when they moved to a farm east of Sargent, where they farmed until retiring in 1965, at that time they moved to Sargent where he did carpenter work. Survivors include his wife, Frances, one daughter, Evelyn, husband Manford Leeseman, four grandchildren, Bruce and Phillip, Linda Leeseman, Patrica and her husband, Frank Slater. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
