Obituary off Maude Tobias Maude L. Amos was born January 20, 1896 to Zachariah D. and Arabella Jane Love Amos at Sargent, Ne. and died March 20, 1980. at the Burwell Community Hospital In Burwell at the age of 82 years and 2 months. Maude lived with her family on a farm south of Sargent. She attended rural grade school, Sargent High School. Wesleyan University and Columbia University majoring in English and Drama. After graduating, she taught school at Scottsbluff City High School for 2 1/2 years, in Illinois for 2 years and one year at Hebron. Ne. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Sargent Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Clive Tobias, Sr., on December 25. 1927 at Sargent. Ne. To this union two sons were born. Clive, Jr. who passed away March 23, 1963 and Zac of Clearwater, Ne. Clive and Maude spent their early married life on a farm north of Sargent, moving south of Sargent to the Coburg community in 1935. They resided there until 1951 when they moved to town in Sargent to care for her father after her sister Freida's death. The y also provided a home for two grandchildren, Dan and Tami Tobias after their father's death. . Survivors include her husband, Clive, son Zac, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son. Clive Jr. , 2 sisters, Ailsa Heller and Freida Amos. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. on March 24, 1980 at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with Reverend Robert Frescoln officiating. Pastor Wayne Hasselquist provided the music with Dorothy Pointer as organist. Honorary pallbearers were: Louis Brim, Clifford Stevens, Raymond Slagle, Paul Sol, Larry Young, Roger Tederman, Glen Butler, Clarence Buckbee, Robert Smith, Howard Goble, Ernest Grim and Frank Beran. Pallbearers were Rick Tobias, Steve Tobias, Dan Beckman, Mike Schmiser. Gary Ingraham, Lee Kerkman and Martin Kelly. Interment was at the Mount Hope Cemetery, at Sargent, Ne. Maude was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family. Memorials may be made to the Cancer and Heart Funds.
