Dick was born September 9, 1947 at Sargent to Ernest and Mildred Poland. He grew up and graduated from Sargent High School in 1965 and from Park School of Business at Denver, Colorado in 1966. Upon returning to Sargent, Dick was married to Judy Millsap on September 30, 1967. In that same year, Dick was called upon to go to Korea where he served in the United States Army until 1969. After returning from Korea, Dick and Judy moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where he worked for the Nebraska State Patrol and completed his private pilot's license. Dick's deepest love, to which he devoted his life, was for his family and friends. Children especially, brought joy to Dick's life, and in turn, he gave to children the gift of laughter.
