Passed away peacefully after a brief but courageous battle to recover following a stroke. Duane was born in Fremont. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Creighton University with a degree in pharmacy. Duane was a devoted pharmacist and active member of the community. He served as past president of the Nebraska Pharmaceutical Association, and taught Clinical Pharmacy at Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 1981, he received the distinguished, National "Bowl of Hygeia Award" to honor pharmacists who have given to their communities. Duane lived his life with passion. He designed the Hooper Golf Course and is survived by his many golfing buddies. He was proud of his nickel coffee at his drug store that brought friends together, daily. He loved furthering his thirst for knowledge, dancing with his wife Carol, a good game of golf or bridge and Husker football. Duane, a loving father and devoted husband is survived by his wife, Carol; his five children, their spouses, nine grandchildren and two great-grand children: Dr. Robert Alan and Kathy Mines of Littleton, CO, and their two sons, Michael and Mathew, Terri Maschka of Uehling and her two sons, Duane Dillon Maschka and Seth Kettlehut, his wife, April, and their two children, Kyla and Anthony, Mary Mines and her husband, Dr. Peter Rauenbuehler, and their son, Max, of Hillsborough CA, Michael and Keryl Mines of Bellevue and their children, Samantha, Sara and Trevor, and Kelly Marquardt, Fremont, NE and Terry Marquardt, Hooper, NE and their son, Justin,and close friends: Bill Eaton, Bob Mackey, Bill Heusel, Alan Ott and his many friends in the community. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Mary Teresa Mines. Duane had a generous heart throughout his life and in death. He donated his body to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. A MEMORIAL SERVICE and celebration of his life will be held at 2pm September 25th at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The service will be followed by a reception at Elkhorn Valley Golf Course. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Duane's love for expanding one's knowledge, the family has requested donations be sent to: Duane Mines High School Scholarship Fund, c/o First National Bank Northeast, 102 N.
