Military History - WWI - Army Arthur - occupation was a coal miner; enlisted 3 Aug 1917; discharged 15 May; served in Infantry co K 115th Division, Regular army; battles; Argone, St. Mehiel, Santheal, Chattery, Bellow Woods; wounded at Argonne Forest 14 Oct. Received a Purple Heart medal. Arthur William Arney and his wife Flossie Arney (married June 24, 1919) lived at the 1519 Murphey Street address for the last 30 years. He was a Carman for the Wabash railroad shop in Marion, MO at the time of death and previously a coal miner. Cause of death was asphyxia pulmonary emphysema chronic bronchial asthma. Burial was August 9, 1959, at the Higbee Cemetery. WWI & WWII draft cards. He was a veteran of WWI, serving in France and Germany, and was discharged as a master sergeant. He received a Purple Heart medal. Surviving is his wife, a daughter, Iola Cooley, a son, William Arney, a sister, Mary Rockenfield and 11 grandchildren, all of Moberly, MO.
