Bio

Doris Courtney was born on September 2, 1923 in Bethlehem, PA. She passed away on July 31, 2019 in Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers; and in 2007, her husband of 60 years, Thomas J. Courtney. Doris graduated from high school in Bethlehem, PA. During WWII she was employed with the Quartermaster Corps in Philadelphia, PA. She also modeled for DeMay & Co. Doris met her future husband, Thomas, on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ. They were united in marriage on October 5, 1946 in Bethlehem, PA. Soon after, Thomas accepted a job at the new bank in Lynch, NE. They settled there, and raised seven children. Doris participated in many activities with her children and grandchildren; such as bowling, swimming, biking, ice skating, sleigh riding, and shooting hoops. She also enjoyed time at the beach, reading, camping, traveling, and an occasional trip to the casino. For many years, she volunteered to raise funds for March of Dimes and the American Heart Fund. Central to Doris’ life was her family and Catholic faith. She was a kind, loving, patient, and considerate woman. You were always warmly welcomed into her home with a hug and your favorite pie. Treasuring the memories of a life well-lived are her seven children; Linda (Erik Palle, Spearfish, SD), Doreen (Harvey Smith, Belle Fourche, SD), Steven (Amy, Virginia Beach, VA), Nancy (Michael Young, Lincoln, NE), Alan (Denver, CO), Barbara (Joe Hochnadel, Lake St. Louis, MO), and David (Beatrice, NE.) She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
