Bio

Emeline Angeline Pettijohn was born to George Washington Pettijohn Sr. and Sarah Ann McKinley Pettijohn. Her mother died within a short after the birth of her younger sister Martha in 1847. She was raised by two different step-mothers. Emeline married James Bly Carter Sr., September 15, 1865, Montgomery County, Arkansas. They had five known children by his death in 1875. Emeline next married the widower, James Marion Cox who had three children from his first wife. They had three more children. In the 1900 census, Emaline is living with her two youngest sons, Allen and John and lists herself as a widow. In the 1920 census, she is living with her son, Allen Cox and his family and lists herself as divorced.
