From The Palmer Journal, transcribed by Linda Berney: Joseph C. Goerl, 79, of Central City, Nebraska, formerly of Palmer, Nebraska, died Friday, August 23, 1996, at the Community Care Center, Central City, Nebraska. Mr. Goerl was born December 27, 1916 at Clarks, Nebraska to John and Hannah (Sims) Goerl. He grew up and attended country schools at Clarks and Archer. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. On February 11, 1946, he married Leila Wegner at Smith Center, Kansas. They farmed near Palmer until they moved to Central City in 1992. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joe was a member of the Burton-Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer, V.F.W. and 40 & 8. Survivors include his wife, Leila, of Central City; and one son, Robert, of Central City; three grandchildren: Jessica Tash of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Allen Goerl of St. Charles, Missouri, and Lynn Ann Goerl of St. Louis, Missouri; one great-grandson, Alex Cloninger of St. Charles, Missouri; one brother, Carl of Morrisonville, Illinois; and two sisters, Alice Boyd of Carmichael, California, and Effie Sachtjen of Palmer. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Tash; one brother, Clifford; and four sisters: Marie Dawson, Louise Emegarten, Josie Walden, and Celia Shively.
