Bio

Gaston Reeves Ferguson, 77, prominent Haywood County farmer of the Fines Creek section, died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Teague Moody, in Waynesville, at 10 a.m. Thursday following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 3 p.m. Friday in the Ferguson Family Cemetery on Fines Creek. Major Cecil Brown of the Salvation Army and the Rev. Mr. Bingham of Fines Creek will officiate. Pallbearers will be grandsons as. follows: Kenneth and Paul Rogers. Dean Webb, Reeves, Tom and Jack Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was born in Haywood County May 2. 1871, the son of Harrison and Ann Reeves Ferguson. He had resided in Haywood County all his life, and was a member of the Lower Fines Creek Methodist Church. His wife. Mrs. Cenja Kingsmore Ferguson, died in February. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Burnette Webb of Fayetteville, Mrs. Fred Teague Moody of Waynesville, Mrs. Cauley Rogers of Fines Creek, Mrs. Susie Ferguson of Crabtree; seven sons, Pearson of Spring Creek, Sam, Jack, Jim, Bill, Glenn and Pete of Fines Creek; one sister, Mrs. Lela Noland of Lake Junaluska; one brother, Bascombe Ferguson of Murphy; 48 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. The body will remain at the Garrett Funeral Home in Waynesville, in charge of arrangements, until the hour of the funeral. Contributor: Dalton Everett Kelso (50571751)
