Cora Hester Fields was born October 25, 1870 to Jackson B. & Permelia Ann (Wylie) Fields, she had just turned one when her mother passed away. Cora married Samuel Monroe Kirby on Dec 30, 1888. Sam & Cora arrived by train in Texico, New Mexico in 1906 from the Indian Territory of Oklahoma, to file a claim on land in the Pleasant Hill Community. They farmed, had an orchard and the only grain mill in the area. Cora moved to Clovis following the death of her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sons in infancy; Eldridge, Oscar E, and Edgar A. She is survived by five sones and their wives Clifford Elbridge and Mae, Jesse Lee and Zula, Ottas Cummins and Lottie, Clarence Monroe and Louise, and Haskell Emery & Floy.
