Enlistment Army Service No. (ASN): 38145708 Click here for cenotaph memorial, located in Granger Texas. Daniel resided in Williamson County, Texas prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on August 28, 1942 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Newsboy and also as Single, without dependents. Daniel served as a Private First Class, 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Daniel was "Killed In Action" while a passenger on the S.S. Thomas Nelson which was hit by a Japanese kamikaze attack during the war. He was one of 136 soldiers that were killed during that attack on the Nelson. Daniel was awarded the Purple Heart.
