GILMER - Funeral services for Mrs. Donie I, McLendon, 71, who dies Tuesday midnight at her home in Graceton Community, were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from New Diana Baptist Church. The Rev. Obie Baker, pastor of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiated. Mrs. McLendon was born in Alabama Aug. 9, 1876, and came to Upshur County when a young girl. She had been ill for the past five years. Survivors are a son, D.B. McLendon, Gracetown; two daughters, Mrs. H.W. Butler, Longview; Mrs. R.C. Covin, Gracetown; three sisters, Mrs. A.H. Bland, Longview; Mrs. D.L. Mattox, Gracetown; Mrs. H.H. Hudspeth, Hot Springs, N.M. Burial was in Mattox Cemetary. (The Marshall News Messenger - March 25, 1948)
