Bio

"Ignac (Ike) Ermis..., age 84, was born August 8, 1925 in Weimar, TX, and fell asleep in the Lord on January 12, 2010 at home in Austin, TX. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Ermis, daughter, Lillian Langston, son, Chris Ermis, grandson, Dennis Buie, and great-granddaughters, Madison and Sarah Krause. Ike served in Italy during WW II as a rifleman in the 88th Infantry Division, 350th Regiment. He was wounded in action and captured by the Germans during the Po River Valley Campaign. He was then marched to a prison camp in Austria for the remainder of the war. His family in Weimar, Texas, was notified that he was missing in action. He was later repatriated by US forces. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, the Europe, Africa, and Mid East Campaign medals, the WW II Victory medal, and several others including the Good Conduct medal. He was recalled to active duty for the Korean War and retrained as a Military Policeman. At the end of that conflict he was given an honorable discharge. He served his country as a soldier for seven and a half years. After his military service, he resided in Weimar and then in 1965, moved to Austin to work as a carpenter from 1966 to 1986 for NPC. He later owned his own business doing minor repairs. Ike was a member of the VFW and Our Lady's Maronite Catholic Parish, serving on the Development Board and employing his carpentry skills for many projects for the parish...."
