Fred E. Mincks, Jr., Iowa, Service Number O-706068, piloted B-24 Liberators with the 705th Bomb Squadron, 446th Bomb Group. He was killed in action on 25 Aug 1944, while flying in B-24 #42-52772, called "Happy-Go-Lucky" on a mission to Rostock, Germany. According to eye-witnesses the bomber had a fire in one of its engines, left the formation as it neared the coast and crashed into the North Sea near Amrum Island with no survivors.
