Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska, Thursday, October 5, 1944, Page 1, column 4 Pvt. Bartusiak Drowned When Skiff Overturns Pvt. Paul Bartusiak was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bartusiak, of Burwell, Nebr. He was born in Garfield county, July 8, 1921. After attending the rural school he worked for Floyd Ackles and Jim Caddy, then went to the CCC camp at Halsey, Nebr., 1939-1941, when he went to Kearney and attended welding school. In 1942 he was inducted into the army on July 8. He spent two months in the States and then he was sent to Alaska and was serving there at the time he met his death. He apparently drowned in overturning of their skiff, July 10, 1944, in the Valdez area. The boat has been found but no bodies have been recovered. Left to mourn are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bartusiak, and his only brother, Pvt. Edmund L. Bartusiak, Midland, Tex., and two sisters, Clara and twin sister, Pauline, both of Grand Island; also grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Bartusiak of Elyria, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mass and a short service was held at Sacred Heart church. His brother, Pvt. Edmund, and sisters, were home to attend the services.
