The following is excerpts of history for the James Campbell Fox family found in the Texas County Heritage of Missouri Volume I 1989, page 408 history of James Campbell Fox submitted by Mrs. Luther Hiram Fox & page 409 history of William Fox submitted by Nellie P. Caverly. Typed for Find A Grave by Carole Fudge/Ragain James Campbell Fox born March 9, 1834 Haywood Co., TN, (Note death certificate has birth year 1833), died November 23, 1920. Note: thomstone has death Nov. 23 1920, Death Certificate has death Nov 24, 1920. Married on April, 17, 1856 to Martha Elizabeth Martin born January 5, 1840 in Tennessee, died January, 30, 1914. Both are buried in Fiskville Cemetery, Travis Co., Austin, TX. The children of James Campbell Fox and Martha E. (Martin) Fox were: William B. Married Missouri A.; Nancy married James Payne; Mellisa married Logue Mize; Elizabeth "Betty" married Ebenezer Eb "Billie" Fudge (s/o Elijah Thomas Fudge); James Monroe married Mary Addean Dyer; Thomas Overton married Lenora Elizabeth Saltzman. James Fox and his family lived in Texas County, MO until around 1900, when they were found in Grayson County, TX. The father of James Campbell Fox was William Fox ,died in 1844 in Dent Co. MO. The mother of James Campbell Fox was Susan Campbell died in Texas Co., MO. Susan was the daughter of Lewis and Catherine (Boyd) Campbell who were born in TN and SC being of Irish descent. Lewis and Catherine Campbell were married in North Carolina in 1809. In 1840 William and Susan (Campbell) Fox were in Ripley County, with the family. William and Susan Fox came to Dent Co.,MO in 1838 from Haywood Co., TN with their children. Children born in Tennessee were Caroline, John B., Jefferson, and James C. Born in Missouri were Boyd and Margaret Ann. James C. married Martha Elizabeth Martin: Jefferson married 1st Mary Ann Shanks, 2nd a Hutcheson from Alabama, 3rd Minerva Jane Thomason (both in Williams Cem. Licking, Texas Co., MO); John B. married Julia A. Ratliff (d/o Wm. & Rachel Ratliff) John B. died in 1918 in Clay Co. Henrietta, TX ; Boyd married Permelia Pewitt (both in Williams Cem. Licking,Texas Co., MO). NO record of marriages for Caroline or Margaret Ann. After William Fox died in 1844 Susan Fox moved to Texas County, Missouri where she died. The grandparents of James Campbell Fox was Enoch Fox born July 3, 1774 in Shenandoah, VA who died 1853 in Lafayette County, Missouri, after moving from Ray County. Enoch served in the war of 1812 from Monroe County, Tennessee. Enoch married Peggy Dale Fox. Children of Enoch Fox were: Lucinda Lynch, William, Joseph, James, John, Madison, Elizabeth Sisk and Peggy Broomfield. The great grandparents of James Campbell Fox was James and Elizabeth Fox of Dutch descent.
