Bio

John Alvin Hanks was the son of Isaac and Keziah Hanks and was born Sepember 13 1864 in Edgar county Illinois. His parents moved to Wayne county Iowa when he was a year old. There he grew to manhood and in 1885 he married Mary Hand, also of Wayne county. They had five children, one dying in infancy. Mr. Hanks lived in Wayne county until 1907 when he and his family moved to Van Wert, Iowa. He lived there for 7 years and then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he made his home until his death. He went to Sulphur Springs, Arkansas for his health and passed away there. Those left to mourn his passing were his wife, four children, John of Creston, Orbin of Des Moines, Harold of Van Wert and Mildred also of Des Moines. He leaves three brothers, and two sisters. The funeral was held at the Van Wert Chiristian church March 18 and the body was laid away in the Van Wert cemetery. (I assume that someone made an error as to where he was buried in his obit.) This information is from a newspaper clipping in an old scrapbook and is shortened. No dates or name of paper. ) (There are 7 Sulphur Springs in Arkansas.
