Bio

Lillie Mae Conner Massengale departed this life February 28, 2001. Born January 31, 1903 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. C.D Conner, Lillie Mae grew up attending both public and private schools, and later attended East Texas State College (now East Texas State University in Commerce, TX) gaining her teaching certificate. Lillie Mae pursued a career in elementary education, starting in a one-room schoolhouse. At age 22, she met her future husband, Methodist minister Dr. LeRoy Massengale, while attending church with her grandmother. The two courted and married December 26, 1925; their marriage lasted 50 very happy years. Lillie Mae settled into a life of service to the church with her husband and, most importantly, to her growing family. She was blessed with two daughters and a son, Charles L., LuAnn, and Mary Gwynne. From her children she gained eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. Known by her grandchildren as "Maw-Maw" and by her many nieces and nephews as "Aunt Mae", Lillie Mae took an active role in her family's lives, even up until her death at the age of 98. Our family rejoices in her life, and in the love we will continue to keep for her in our hearts.
