Joseph Walker "Joe" Merritt (1922-2010) | Visit Guest Book CELINA - Joseph Walker (Joe) Merritt, age 87, of Celina passed away on July 28, 2010 at Hilltop Haven Nursing Home in Gunter surrounded by his family. He was born on August 18, 1922 in Celina to Tonnie Z. and Ella (Stambaugh) Merritt. Joe lived all his life there in Celina except for three years during World War II when he served his country in the United States Navy. Joe married Betty Fielder on September 8, 1949. He farmed and raised cattle for 55 years before retiring. Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Merritt of Celina; son and daughter-in-law, Joe A. and Cary Merritt; five grandchildren, Joseph, Wesley, Ryan, Seth and Hannah all of Celina; brother and sister-in-law, James and Lorene Merritt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Aarona and John Gracy and Jean and Billy Hagains of Dallas. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 one hour prior to the service which will be held at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Celina with Chaplain John Cocoriz officiating.
