CHAPMAN, Kan.-- George Wesley Abbott, 70, Chapman, formerly of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 at a hospital in Topeka, Kan. For 27 years Mr. Abbott served in the Army, participation in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1977 with the rank of E-7 sergeant first class. He also worked for the Dinkel Security Co. in Salina, Kan.; and as a security guard for the Alco Warehouse, Abilene, Kan.; Woolworth's, Junction City, Kan.; and Tony's Pizza, Salina. Born in St. Joseph on Jan. 19, 1929, he was a graduate of a high school in St. Joseph. He moved to Chapman in 1974. Mr. Abbott was a member of the Chapman American Legion Post No. 240 and Eagles Lodge No. 2934 in Abilene, of which he was a past president. On Jan. 29, 1963, he married Erna G. Luttoschka in Berlin, Germany. She survives of the home. Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Geneva B.; a brother, Joseph I.; and two sisters, Clara C. Lippold and Virginia E. Whitlock. Additional survivors: a son, Fritz Mees, Lebach, Germany; four daughters, Cheryl A. Stroot, St. James, Mo., Susan Litton, St. Joseph, Gabrielle B. Louis, Las Vegas, and Christel Quichocho, Salinas, Calif.; a sister, Genevieve B. Jackson, St. Joseph; two brothers, Benjamin B., Knoxville, Mo., and William J., Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman. Burial was in the Fort Riley, Kan., Cemetery, will full military honors.
