Bernard "Bernie" Wayne Wagner, 83, of Stromsburg died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at BryanLGH West in Lincoln. Bernie was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Gresham to Roy and Mathilda (Tillie) Wagner. On June 21, 1963 he married Dorothy Simpson Frary at Broken Bow. She died in 1995. Survivors are: sister, Bea Wagner of Stromsburg, and a stepson, Paul Frary of Warrenton, Va; nephews, Delbert Wagner of Burwell and Charles Wagner of Ord; nieces, Connie Allensworth of Jefferson, Iowa, Darlene Thibodeau of Spicewood, Texas, and Carolyn Dexter of Burwell; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Bernie attended Ritchie School through the 8th grade. He left school to work on the family farm. He farmed in Seward and Polk counties until 1963, when he moved to Burwell to operate his own service station business. He moved to Stromsburg in 1967 to work for Beckman Plumbing. Bernard spent his last working years in the maintenance department of Midwest Covenant Home, retiring from there in April of 2003. Bernard loved ballroom dancing and spent his last hours at the Play Mor ballroom. He also enjoyed yard work, blowing snow and listening to country music. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mathilda, and brother and sister-in-law, Hollis and Charlotte Wagner.
