James was born in Benton Co., AL. He died in the home of his youngest daughter and her husband Nannie and Dick Sartain. His widow Henrietta continued to live with them until she died in 1917. They are buried side-by-side and have a double marker in Pleasant Hill Cemetery located on Highway 323 in Rusk Co., TX.
