(01/29/2025) THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, July 23, 1995, p. 8A: "Floyd C. Simmons, 78, of 440-42nd SW in Paris, died at his residence at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 1995. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct services at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, in Immanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. Lorenzo Johns and Dr. Bill Yarger officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday. He will lie in state at the church Monday for the hour prior to funeral time. Mr. Simmons was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Honey Grove, a son of Floyd Luther Simmons and Mary Wolfe Simmons. He attended school at Brookston. During World War II, he was in the 136th Division, Battery A of the artillery. On June 6, 194 1, he married Wilma Robinson in Hugo, Okla. They had resided in California 37 years before returning to Paris in 1982. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker. While in California, he was a member of the Carpenter's Union 721 and a deacon in the Athens Baptist Church in Gardena, Calif. He was a member here of Immanuel Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there. He had served on numerous church committees. Surviving are his wife, Wilma, of Paris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and Dennis Wolin of Laguna Nigel, Calif., and Gwen and Dr. Bill Yarger of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Dan Simmons of Paris; six grandchildren, Jennifer Fitter and her husband Mrk [sic] of Adelanto, Calif., Tim Wolin and his wife Renee of Laguna Hills, Calif., Jeff Simmons of Paris, Paul Yarger, David Yarger and John Yarger, all of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Bennett Fitter of Adelanto, Calif., and Kaitlyn Wolin of Laguna Hills, Calif.; and two sisters, Ireae Burkham of Sulphur Springs and Lois Means of Premont, Texas. Named to serve as pallbearers are Curtis Adams, Jr., Ronald David Robinson, Sammy Simmons, Wendell Tallant, Gary Ballard and Wayne Tomblin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund." On the same stone with Wilma L. Simmons. Also has a military marker inscribed, "TEC 5 US Army - World War II."
