THE PARIS NEWS, SUNDAY, AUGUST 10, 1997, PAGE 8A - Virgil Carpenter, 87, of Brookston, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center with his family by his side. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Hill Draper and the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Carpenter was born in Blossom to J. A. (Lon) and Drew Parks Carpenter Jan. 2, 1910. He married Estelle Newberry in Hugo, OK, Sep. 19, 1931. They were married 65 years and lived in Brookston the duration of their marriage. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Patterson and her husband, Bill and Kay Adams; three grandsons, Joe Patterson and his wife, Patty, Jim Patterson and his wife Susan and Kenneth Adams and his wife Dana; five great-grand-daughters, Kelsie Adams, Lesli and Drew Patterson, Kaitlyn Patterson and Jacy Patterson; two great-grandsons, Shelton and Joseph Patterson; also Kaleb Newberry and Ronny and Glen Ferrell; a brother, James Carpenter and his wife Jauvanee; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Juanita Carpenter; a brother, Grady Carpenter and a son-in-law, Ray Adams. Serving as pallbearers are Gerald Wayne Byas, David Lee Carpenter, Brad Rhoades, Orville Edwards, Thomas Jordan and Mike Ford. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are James Foster, D.E. Brooks, Dewey Ausmus Jr., Tony Winn, L.P (Pete) Patterson, Alan Weatherford, Gerald Free and Lynn Patterson.
