THE PARIS NEWS, May 04, 2003: Lela Parks Lowe, 97, of Murphysboro, Ill., formerly of Paris, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Carbondale, Ill. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She was born Dec. 17, 1905, near Blossom to John M. and Ada Cassell Parks. She attended Blossom schools and married James Elvis Lowe on Dec. 8, 1927. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1978. She resided in Blossom and Paris until her recent move to Illinois. She was a homemaker who excelled at cooking and gardening and enjoyed assisting her many friends and family. She was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Paris. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Ruth Lowe of Richardson; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Leo Gher of Murphysboro, Ill.; grandchildren, John and Charlotte Lowe and Jana Shelton of Richardson, Julianna and Chris Brown of Wake Forest, N.C., and Krista and James Kirn of St. Charles, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Kira and Corey Lowe and Cliff and Emily Shelton of Richardson and Troy Brown of Wake Forest, N.C.; her cousin, Phoebe Rhodes of Paris; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be James Kirn, Chris Brown, John Lowe, Corey Lowe, Patrick Coplin, Marion Lowe, Bill Parker and Bill Huml. Memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Honor Cemetery Association in Blossom.'
