Bio
Jesse G. Troyer, 74, retired farmer and logging worker, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 25, in Willamette Falls hospital where he had been under care since Aug 10. He had been in failing health about two years. Funeral services are set tentatively for Friday afternoon. They will be held in Calvary Mennonite church, Barlow, with interment in Zion Mennonite cemetery at Ninety-One. Canby's Everhart & Kent chapel has charge. Mr. Troyer had lived at his North Ivy street address since 1941, and most of his years in southern Clackamas county. He was born Aug 12, 1890, in Garden City, Mo., and came to the Whiskey Hill sector in 1892 with his parents, Amos P. and Delilah Yoder Troyer. His father was Zion Mennonite church's first bishop. Jess attended school at Whiskey Hill and also at Marks Prairie and West Woodburn, and was married Jan. 17, 1915, to Mary Esch at the Hubbard home of her parents, with his father officiating. They farmed in the Woodburn sector, and for six years near Edmonton, Alberta, before he turned to logging work, from which he retired at 66. He was a member of Calvary church, whose pastor, the Rev. Harry Howard, will officiate at Mr. Troyer's funeral. Besides his widow, Mary, in Canby, Mr. Troyer leaves six children; Mrs. Jack (Amy) Vilendre and J. Lloyd Troyer of Portland, James W., in merchant marine service out of San Francisco, Mrs. Gladys D. Lakin of Manzanita, Richard R. Troyer of Salem, and Donald G. Troyer of Seattle. He was the brother of Mrs. D. D. (Elizabeth) Hostetler and Mrs William G (Emma) Kenagy of Canby, Mrs. John (Grace) Berkey of Hubbard, and Ernest Troyer of Shivley, Cal.
