My father was a true pioneer with the pioneer's love of freedom, spirit of achievement, self-reliance and fearlessness. He was a pioneer in the intellectual as well as the physical realm. Under the limitations of the frontier, his intellectual genius found no expression comparable to its strength. But it at least freed him from prevailing political doctrine. He had no sympathy for secession based on slavery, nor for any blind worship of parties. A total abstainer, he had nothing but contempt for law-made temperance. His one intellectual aim was the truth; his one guide of conduct was right for right's sake. Scorning the Pharisee's professions, his whole religion was service without hope of reward. ~ by Albert Jackson Robinson Contributed by Lonestar #47672736
