McLaughlin DFC Target:Campina, Rumania - Ploesti Mission: 1-Aug-43 Serial Number: 42-40746 Aircraft Model B-24D-70-CO Aircraft Letter: B Aircraft Name: WOLF WAGON Location: McLaughlin and crew successfully Returned to Benghazi Sgt Moore participated in "Operation Tidal Wave" one of the most daring raids of World War II. Coming in at tree top level, the Sky Scorpions destroyed the Steaua Romana oil refinery. The refinery did not produce oil for six months. The 389th earned the Presidential Unit Citation, all of the crews received the Distinguished Flying Cross. The 389th Bombardment Group lost six aircraft on this mission.
