OSMOND - Services for Rose Schmit, 99, Osmond, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church here with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Ashburn Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at the church. She died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at St. Joseph Care Center in Norfolk. Rose Schmit was born June 24, 1908, in Osmond to parents Joseph and Mary (Scharf) Pochop. Rose was educated at Winnetoon and Norfolk and graduated in 1928. On Feb. 10, 1934, Rose married Joseph Schmit in Osmond. The couple lived and worked on the farm until 1981 when they moved into Osmond. Rose was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, its Guild and the Christian Mothers. Rose served many offices at her church and was an EME for the Osmond hospital. Rose was a devoted wife and took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose enjoyed dancing, cooking, sewing and was proud to serve on the Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star mother. Survivors include three children, Eugene Schmit of McLean, Robert Schmit of Osmond and Mary Rose Schainost of Norfolk, and 20 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Pochop. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Schmit; parents; son, Leo Schmit; two grandsons, Andrew and Roland Schmit; two granddaughters, Lisa and Francine Schmit; four brothers, Ervin, Joe, Alvin and Henry; two sisters, Marie and Jean; two sons-in-law, Norbert Beckman and Stanley Schainost; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Pochop.
