Bio

US World War I Draft Registration Card lists John L. Kiel's birthplace as Carmine, Fayette County, Texas. Although John's death certificate lists his parents as Louis Kiel and Emma Ahrens, Louis was married to Helena Gerdes on August 6, 1895 in Caldwell, Burleson, Texas - so his mother was probably Helena Gerdes. Helena died in 1899, and Louis married Emma Kiel (widow of Gustav Kiel) on November 6, 1901. In the 1910 US Census, Emma has 6 living children but there are 9 total children listed as sons and daughters of Louis, including John and Robert (who were born before Emma married her first husband Gustav in December 1897). ---------------------------------------- John Kiel never married.
